District and Oncology Nurse Casual - Community Nursing

Te Whatu Ora Wairarapa's Community Nursing team is looking for motivated and experienced Registered Nurses to join our District Nursing and oncology casual pool.

About the role

We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic Registered Nurses with a minimum of three years' postgraduate experience, preferably in a community setting. District and oncology nurses work autonomously in the patient's home and dedicated wound clinics, providing assessment and support, developing and reviewing care plans, delivering clinical care and following-up patients requiring ongoing care.

These are casual positions working 0 - 80 hours per fortnight, as and when required. Applicants must be available at short notice to cover any shift, including weekends and nights. To be eligible to apply for this position you must be a New Zealand citizen or have resident or permanent work visa status.

The hours of work include early mornings and early evenings, there are two shifts 8am - 4.30pm and 10.30am to 7pm working Monday through Sunday, including statutory holidays.

You will be required to work across the Wairarapa, therefore we do require applicants to have a full and valid NZ drivers' licence as well as be contactable via a mobile phone.


About the Team/Service

The district nursing team provides nursing care, advice and support to patients and their whanau across various healthcare settings while oncology nurses support patients though their cancer journey.

We have two bases; one in Masterton and one in Greytown and the successful applicants will receive a comprehensive orientation to both sites.

About you

You therefore need to be happy to work alone and have strong interpersonal skills, including empathy and understanding for older people and the terminally ill, who are significant consumers of our services. You need to be willing to develop generic skills and to undertake further training relevant to community-based nursing.

  • Experienced Registered Nurse with current annual practicing certificate, minimum of 3 years postgraduate experience in a clinical setting
  • Current full clean drivers' license.
